A native of Atlanta, Mercedes has spent the better part of her 25-year career in hospitality proving that even if you start at the bottom, through hard work, dedication and perseverance, you can come out on top. From her first job at the Renaissance, to her current position at the GICC, Ms. Miller has always worked to live up to her mantra, “Operate in where you are going and not where you are!”
Mercedes began her hospitality career in marketing at the Stouffer Waverly Hotel. From there, she was promoted to Sales Manager, where she became part of the opening team for The Stouffer Concourse Hotel at Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport (now known as the Renaissance Concourse Hotel). Her career path then led her to her current employer, the GICC as a National Sales Manager, where she advanced to Director of Sales and Executive Director. Prior to her many positions at the GICC, Mercedes was hired by the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau as the National Sales Manager for the Airport Area.
Ms. Miller attributes her success in large part to her community involvement. She is the Past President and current Board Member of the Draper Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Atlanta Airport Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the International Association of Assembly Managers (I.A.A.M.), the Professional Conference Management Association (P.C.M.A.), the American Society of Association Executives (A.S.A.E.) and the National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners (NCBMP). She has also been honored as one of Atlanta’s most interesting personalities and a leader in her community with her repeated inclusion in Who’s Who in Black Atlanta
